1. Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal Tonbridge
Roof cleaning can completely change the look of your home and remind you of just how good looking your roof was meant to be as well as helping preserve the material your roof is made of. People put it off because the access and the risk make it unsuitable for homeowners to do themselves, and then they put it off a bit more because they’re sure it will be expensive, and disruptive. Well with us that’s not the case. Our experience with roofs means we can get up there quickly and easily with no damage to your property. Our understanding of the best technique for cleaning means we get the best results and preserve your prized property, and you will be surprised how quick, efficient, and affordable we are.
Eco-Friendly Roof Cleaning
Increasing numbers of homeowners are asking us about whether we can clean their roofs without resorting to harsh chemicals. Some are doing it because they have children and pets and try to avoid toxic chemicals around the home. Others sense that harsh chemicals may be convenient but not necessarily in the long term interests of the roof itself. Increasingly environmental awareness means many don’t want to be responsible for releasing hazardous chemicals that will then go back into the ecosystem. The good news is that yes we can clean your roof without high pressure or bleach so that you get a great looking roof without having to worry about the environmental cost.
Everyone loves the look of a mossy roof. That rich green colour, that soft-looking texture; it’s great. Unless it’s your roof. Then you’ll be aware that moss acts as a huge sponge that soaks up water and adds to the load on already stressed roof components. Then there’s the freeze-thaw cycle that comes with having a wet sponge sitting on top of your property. If that wasn’t enough there’s also the fact that moss has a habit of breaking away and moving with clumps of that lovely mossy growth finding their way into your gutters and drainpipes which then block. Add the freeze-thaw element to that pooled water in the pipes and you’re on a fast track to plumbing cracking open as well as damage to roof tiles and even beams if it gets really bad. So we clear that moss from your roof so you can avoid the repair bills that are the price of moss accumulation.
Easy on the Pressure
Pressure washing is fast and gets the job done but there is nothing quite like overcooked pressure washers to force water into places it’s not wanted. So while we bring pressure to the party you can trust us to adjust it to the correct level to ensure maximum cleaning with minimum damage.
Easy on the Chemicals
Some roof cleaners reach straight for the pool cleaner chlorine to get that roof spotless – because it works. However it also leaves the house smelling of chemicals. We are happy to present you with a number of choices for the liquids we use on your roof and we always respect your choice.
2. Roof Coatings Tonbridge
Your roof protects your property from the elements but what protects your roof? We can give your roof and therefore your house and home that extra edge against whatever nature throws at it by means of protective coatings to armour plate your property. Depending on the type of coating you choose the results can increase the thermal insulation of your home, increase its waterproofness, prevent colour fading, reduce maintenance, and extend the life of your property. Click here for the working model. There are many different coatings, each designed for slightly different benefits for different roof types so call us now and let’s talk coatings to help protect your property. Our experienced coating sprayers will ensure that the right amount of coating is delivered to every surface of your roof including penetrating into gaps between tiles and where there are joints or edges.
Silicone and Acrylic
Silicone is the king of coatings because the application is a one-off thick coat of silicone but the results of that one-off are among the best when it comes to waterproofing and UV protection. More expensive than other coatings it makes up for that by the single installation and a longer lifespan between resprays. The acrylic polymer resin is another really tough and long-lasting high-quality roof coating that is notable for its thermal qualities. That makes it perfect for attics and warehouses that tend to heat up too much in the summer and increase air conditioning bills. Acrylic is more sensitive than silicone, requiring more skill to apply. We have that skill but as part of that we know that it needs to be applied when the air temperature is right and so
No consideration of roof coatings would be complete without including good old bitumen. A perennial favourite it has stood the test of time because of its excellent waterproofing and related to that; its resistance to damage from the freeze/thaw cycle. Of course, there is a downside to bitumen – it comes in any colour you like as long as it’s black. Sometimes, however, that’s just what the building needs so ask us about what’s right for your roof.
A favourite for metal roofs polyurethane coatings are usually applied as two separate coats; with what’s called an aromatic base coat for insulation onto which an aliphatic coat is applied to give the polyurethane resistance to UV and thus resist the roof’s colour fading after continued exposure to sunlight.
Elastomeric coatings may sound like the most exotic option but there are good arguments for them, especially if roofs are going to have to take heavy footfall where their strength is less likely to be impaired than silicone. Elastomeric coatings are gaining ground for their proven performance but also for their environmental credentials since they don’t smell as much as other coatings and that is partly due to an extremely low level of VOC (volatile organic compounds) which means they give off very little vapour. That’s particularly interesting in commercial environments where customers or employees spend long hours near coated areas.
We mix years of experience together with the very best equipment.
If you’re reading this then the chances are you’re considering cleaning the moss, lichen and all sorts of other detritus from your roof tiles?
Well, you’re in good company, we’ve been cleaning roofs and removing moss from roof tiles since 1995.
But…not just cleaning roofs.
This is a good time for me to chat with you about how after 25 plus years of spraying by airless spray equipment our proven, tried and tested, German, clear or colour-pigmented protective coatings and how your current, moss-covered, dirty and tired looking roof, will look like a brand new one for a fraction of the cost.
I liken the application of these outstanding coatings as similar to protecting the bodywork of your car.
We wash our cars regularly ourselves or we take them to a carwash.
At some point, we’ll notice that the paintwork is starting to look dull and will then, at some point, either apply the polish and buff it ourselves or again, pay for someone else to do it.
Why polish it?
Well, it will certainly look better, rainwater will bead and run off very quickly and bird droppings or tree sap will no longer begin to “eat away” at your paintwork.
We do this to something that devalues every time we start it up (in most cases).
Your home (your castle) over time, just does the opposite!
I’m really happy that you’re considering roof cleaning and would welcome the opportunity to provide a free quotation for you. If you like and at the same time we can provide a quotation for protecting your now very clean roof (but not protected) from the elements.
I’m not going to talk “over your head” about the technical specifications and processes of these stunning protective coatings, but know this:
Once we have cleaned and removed the moss, lichen, and algae from your roof tiles and before the application of either a clear or coloured protective coating, our expert contractor will put a new tip into his spray gun.
We only use the market leader for our tips. Graco tips are made out of the highest grade of tungsten carbide, the most abrasive-resistant material used in the manufacturing of airless spray tips.
All spray tips will wear with normal use. All coatings contain solids that are abrasive — some more than others. Using a worn tip will result in a patchy finish, because when a tip wears the size of the tip orifice increases and the fan width decreases. This forces more passes to cover the surface leading to an interruption in the optimum delivery pattern.
Combining the correct Graco spray tip with our gun plays a big role in helping us create the professional finish your roof coating job demands. Not only does the tip determine how much fluid will leave the gun when our contractor pulls the trigger, the spray tip also determines how wide a spray fan the gun will create.
Our contractor is also watching the tip for any signs of “clogging”
We only use Graco’s reversible tips. With a reversible tip, he can easily clear tip clogs by simply turning the tip 180 degrees to the clean position and then triggering the sprayer.

3. Patio & Driveway Cleaning Tonbridge
Patios and driveways inevitably attract dirt. Rainfall washes soil onto the hard surfaces where it finds the ridges and troughs between pavers, bricks, or in patterned concrete and collects. Lichen and moss get a hold and start growing wherever there is enough damp to sustain life – which in the UK is pretty much everywhere. Before you know it there are dark patches and stains on the patio flooring, the pathways, and the driveway and these aren’t just ugly – they can be hazardous. Build-ups of lichen and mould are often slippery underfoot and since we are talking about paths and driveways that means a risk just where you and your visitors are most likely to encounter it. Patios are meant to encourage you to live outdoors and stains or patches of moss don’t add to that. Besides which your driveway and pathways to the property are your introductions to any visitors and a key part of the first impression that they form. So for many reasons you need to get those paths, patios, and driveways sparkling and welcoming again.
Different paving materials have different characteristics and require different approaches. Tarmac and concrete are of course legendarily tough and you’d think natural stone was hard as, well, rock. In fact, however, even the toughest of paving types will have their weak spots and nature has a way of finding them. No matter how tough your paving is we can extend its life by removing microscopic plant life that is digging into its surface. For many paving types, including traditional brick patterns and many natural stones they can actually be quite easy to damage if cleaned carelessly so we take great care to do the job right.
Where there are particularly delicate paving or patio surfaces, such as antique brick or handmade quarry tiles we go back to basics and get down on hands and knees with hand brushing because it is sometimes simply the only way to get a surface thoroughly cleaned without damaging it. We also choose our washing materials carefully and will avoid substances like bleach if they pose a risk to more delicate materials.
We can do pressure washing but we know better than to simply turn up the volume and blast away. We select the right pressure for the job and take great care around joints and seams because we know that in some cases pressure washing can do more harm than good. Count on us to mix pressure and hand scrubbing to get the best results with zero damage.
Bleaches and chemical cleaners might get the job done but often at a cost. Not only can those harsh substances damage more delicate surfaces but they often smell and seep into surrounding soil so that they linger and damage your immediate environment. We can use natural soaps and white vinegar where appropriate to get great results without posing a risk to your plants, your children, or your pets.
4. Exterior Wall Cleaning & Coating Tonbridge
Exterior walls tend to have two jobs to do: they have a crucial structural role in which strength is all-important, and they are the face your property presents to the outside world which means you want them to look good. Keeping walls looking good and protecting them from the elements is exactly what wall coatings are all about and we have a range of options that will protect, preserve, and enhance your exterior walls. With the right preparation and coating, we can even remove the need for you to repaint your exterior walls for a full decade or two. Now that’s a prospect worth thinking about.
Before we go about applying coatings to walls we like to give those surfaces the best possible preparation to ensure lasting success for the coatings that follow. That means a thorough and meticulous wall cleaning to ensure that mould, lichen, dirt, or damp are dislodged. We have a wide variety of techniques at our disposal ranging from the obvious power washer (always used with great care and at the appropriate setting for the wall material and fittings) to getting up there and getting personal with soap and brushes where that is what will be the best for the wall surface. We also have a full range of environmentally friendly cleaning materials to hand which is important not only for the planet but for the soil surrounding your own home which is inevitably where cleaning solutions will find their way. Where necessary we will also use a biocidal wash on your walls to ensure that algae etc are killed off for the future and won’t then regrow under the coating.
Many coating materials are described as microporous which means that despite coatings being resin-based and resistant to rain, they are still breathable. That means that water vapour can make its way out which is a real bonus where there is damp which you don’t want to have trapped in the wall.
Textured coatings are ten to twenty times thicker than paint and form a serious barrier against rain and even wind-driven rain as well as UV. That thickness also means they can hide ugly scars where the exterior has been damaged or where changes indoors or window frames have left their mark on exterior rendering or coatings like pebbledash. Textured coatings come in colours to blend in with brick and can bring old brick back to life or can be clear to keep the exact colour of the existing surface.
Depending on the property and the materials and render of the exterior walls we may recommend a smooth coating. Smooth coatings are often based on silicon or other minerals and are perfect for keeping the appearance of existing lime cement or painting. It’s a mark of how good they are at preserving both the appearance of an existing wall and keeping it safe that smooth coatings are often stipulated for listed and historic properties.
Exterior Wall Coatings With Proven Performance
The masonry breathes and becomes permeable to water vapour. Both air and moisture pass through from one side to the other. Because the masonry breathes will improve the thermal conductivity and insulation properties within the building, as little as a 5% quantity of dampness in cavity wall insulation can lower the thermal resistance by up to 50%.
You will notice how water will “bead” and run off the wall, very often taking dirt particles with it. It will keep the masonry dry and highly resistant to any residues such as mould and mildew. A dry surface will improve the thermal resistance, prevent frost damage and reduce the growth of microbial spores.
Moss, lichen and algae cannot obtain a hold on the proPERLA® coated surface and will flow off with rainfall. The external walls remain clean and attractive, even on sides that are particularly exposed to the weather, like on the north-facing side or an elevation that is shaded as well as areas with high air humidity or sea salt penetrated air.
